Planning a High School Program

Finding ways to expand the learning opportunities for our students is a major objective of the staff of West Roxbury High School. Guidance counselors are the best source of help, and under the counselor's direction, students should have little difficulty in planning their high school program.

General Requirements

Attendance

Students must attend 85% of the enrolled days within each grading period to receive a passing report card mark. Students whose illness or injury is documented by a physician may be passed, if they have completed the necessary make-up work and have passing grades for the term work as well as on the term examinations. Seven (7) absences in a marking term will drop a student's attendance below 85%. Any note explaining and verifying an absence must be submitted to the teacher within three days of the student's return -- notes submitted after three school days may not be accepted by the teacher.

Final Grade

Final grades will be an average of the four marking term grades and the final exam. Each of the term grades and the final exam will count 20% of the final grade.

All entering students are remnded that they may elect any courses offered in sequence (e.g. Spanish 1, 2, 3, etc.) Placement within each course, by level, is to be determined by the school.

The Registrar's Office will be open during the last week in June and last two weeks in August (the dates are announced each year) for programming of new students. A June mailing is sent to students assigned through the Department of Implementation with course offerings to be selected.
