BPS 8th Grade Algebra Scope and Sequence Guide
2004-2005
September (14 days)	Moving Straight Ahead: 9 days. Should end on or about Sep 27. Students will gain ability to recognize and represent linear relationships in tables, graphs, words, and symbols and be able to solve simple linear equations.
	Thinking with Mathematical Models: 21 days. Should end on or about Oct 26. Students will get an introduction to functions and modeling, slope, and finding the equation of a line.
October (20 days)
	Growing, Growing, Growing: 23 days. Should end on or about Dec 8. Students will learn to recognize and represent exponential growth and decay in tables, graphs, words, and symbols.
November (18 days)
December (17 days)
	Looking for Pythagoras: 25 days. Should end on or about Jan 26. Students will explore the Pythagorean Theorem, irrational numbers, connecting coordinates, slope, distance, and area.
January (20 days)
	Frogs, Fleas, and Painted Cubes: 31 days. Should end on or about Mar 14. Students will learn to recognize and represent quadratic functions in tables, graphs, words, and symbols.
February (15 days)
March (21 days)
	Say It With Symbols: 22 days. Should end on or about Apr 29. Students will explore equivalent expressions, and solving linear and simple quadratic equations.
April (16 days)

	Clever Counting: 17 days: Should end on or about June 16. Students will learn counting techniques, including trees, lists, tables, and diagrams; networks.
