Health Education and Careers Network

The Health Education and Careers Network is a School to Career program for students interested in exploring health professions.

Students have the opportunity to explore the career options available in Health Professions. Each component provides a focused, complete experience and access to post-secondary education and career advancement.

Our mission is to provide access to health career opportunities for all students including students with disabilities and students who may be considered at risk.

HECN is primarily an after-school program.

PROGRAM COMPONENTS

• HEALTH CAREERS EXPLORATORY @ BAHEC: Explore a variety of health careers at Boston Medical Center through workshops and internships.
• COLLEGE EXPLORATORY: Take a course and experience college life in a supportive environment.
• NURSING ASSISTANT/HOME HEALTH AIDE TRAINING WITH AMERICAN RED CROSS: Train to become a certified HHA/CNA in a variety of settings with clinical practicum.
• EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (EMT) TRAINING WITH BOSTON EMERGENCY SERVICES: Train to become a certified EMT in the fast-paced field of emergency care.
• RECREATION THERAPY INTERNSHIP @ THE HEBREW REHABILITATION CENTER: Experience a career in Recreation Therapy through a work-based internship and college level activities.
• MEDICAL ASSISTANT INTERNSHIP: Experience a career as a medical assistant. Take a college course and intern in a health care setting.
