From Home to
School, a Partnership
The
Josiah
Quincy
School
has high expectations for our students and we support them every step of the
way. This nurturing begins early. The Kindergarten classes are taught by highly
experienced teachers, aided by full-time assistant teachers. For Grades One and
Two, the school hires extra teachers so that class sizes are smaller. From the
start, the school sets up a partnership among the teachers, students, and
parents.
Highly
motivated teachers: Our teachers focus on the needs of the individual
student. When needed, teachers give extra support through small groups and
tutoring. Our teachers are constantly engaged in professional development and
collaborate on learning strategies.
Enthusiastic
students: Our students are encouraged to think, analyze, and question. The
student body is drawn from all economic levels and from many cultural
backgrounds. Josiah Quincy teaches tolerance, cultural pride, and respect and
appreciation for one another. The students bring to the partnership their hunger
for learning, and gain an emphasis on problem-solving as a strategy for all
aspects of their lives.
Active
parents: Josiah Quincy parents are encouraged
to become involved in their child’s school life. Open houses and workshops
allow parents a glimpse into classroom teaching methods. Presentations to
parents are given in both English and Chinese. We have a very active Parents
Council and School Site Council. Parents have formed a non-profit association (JQSA)
that raises funds in support of the school and is establishing a JQS alumni
association.
