African American Celebration

The African American celebration is for celebrating the African Americans and their accomplishments. Every grade in the Quincy School was involved in the performance. It had a lot of songs and stories about African Americans. The play mostly focused on abolitionists who tried to stop slavery. The songs were mostly songs that the slaves sang or abolitionists made.

There were songs such as Lift Every Voice and Sing, Amazing Grace, We Shall Overcome, Wade in the Water, Angels Watching Over Me, Rock My Soul, and I Have a Dream. There was a poem by Eloise Greenfield called Rope Rhyme. The plays were about the Revolutionary War, Abolitionist Meeting, Civil war, The Harlem Renaissance, Civil Rights Movement, and the Present. There were also short biographies about the people who tried to stop slavery and people who fought against racism to reach their dreams.

A lot of people liked this show. I thought it was great because of the interesting songs and biographies, and a lot of people were involved in the performance.
