The Philbrick School welcomes students from neighborhoods throughout the city of Boston: Dorchester, Hyde Park, Jamaica Plain, Mattapan, Roslindale, Roxbury, and West Roxbury.

Welcome to the John D. Philbrick Elementary School, where 158 students from throughout the city of Boston live our motto: “Show respect. Work hard. Be kind.” We provide a safe, nurturing learning environment in which our K2-grade 5 children can, and do, thrive.

What Makes Our School Special?

The John D. Philbrick Elementary School is one of Boston's smallest public schools. The size of our school enables teachers to provide personal attention to all children and establish an environment that is both intimate and nurturing. We believe that our students will learn if provided with a rigorous and well-rounded educational experience. To reach this end, we use a workshop approach to reading, writing, and mathematics instruction; we provide specialty classes in science, music, physical education, art, and dance; and we establish extensive business, community, and family partnerships.

What Kinds of Parent Support and Resources Does Our School Provide?

The Philbrick School offers many opportunities for parental involvement. We have an active School Parent Council and a

high-functioning School Site Council. Parents also serve on our Schoolyard Committee, among other others. Through the Read Boston Family Literacy Program, our parent liaison facilitates school wide home reading. Finally, we host monthly family nights that feature unique and dynamic themes.
