Students take a variety of Public Safety and Criminal Justice pathways courses throughout their high school education, including Introduction to Public Safety, Introduction to Criminal Justice, and First Responders Course team-taught by Boston EMTs. Monument High School develops its public safety and criminal justice pathway by allowing seniors the opportunity to take college level courses and participate in for credit internships. In partnership with the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department and City School's Prison Empowerment Project, students and staff create dialogue about crime and punishment among diverse groups of youth and adults outside and inside the walls of Massachusetts's prisons and students in these courses tour local prisons.

Monument further develops its pathway by allowing students to participate in work based learning programs such as the Public Safety Internship program. Sponsored by NEXTEL Communication and the Boston Police Activities League, the Public Safety Intership provides students with after-school paid internships. After attending interviews and several weeks of after-school career workshops, 25 Monument students were selected this year as interns at the Boston Fire Department, Boston Police Department, Boston Park Rangers, Boston EMS, United States Coast Guard, Municipal Court and other partipating public safety locations throughout Boston.

All students enrolled in science classes participate in a school wide science fair and send several students to the city-wide Science Fair. Students also engage in weekly hands-on lab activities and experiments. Science projects include many connections to the thematic focus of Criminal Justice and Public Safety. Advanced Placement courses in English, Economics, and Environmental Science are now offered.

In Freshman English classes students take part in the ePAL program with Write Boston and MHS legal partner Robinson & Cole. ePALs is an email-based pen pal relationship between Monument High School students and Robinson & Cole LLP Lawyers and Legal assistants. Last year students read Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck and shared their reactions and analyze the deeper meaning of the text with their mentors.
