The Office of Career and Technical Education of the Boston Public Schools offers programs in over 35 different career fields. This website provides information about these Career and Technical Education programs, as well as special projects, connections with higher education, partnerships with business, and more. CTE Initiatives - Collins Writing Program - Career Cruising - Kutzweil OCTE has scheduled a full day workshop, “Upgrading Career and Technical courses through the development of a Course Syllabus”. This program, to be held in the early spring, will allow vocational and career pathway teachers an opportunity to insure that their programs are aligned with industry standards, have clearly defined goals, assignments and deliverables, integrate academic content, and include an assessment plan. More information regarding this workshop will be provided soon. The Office of Career and Technical Education is continuing a pilot program to offer the Accuplacer™ college placement test to juniors and seniors while they are still enrolled in high school. The program is a collaboration between the Office of Career and Technical Education-Tech Prep, TechBoston, Boston Area Advanced Technological Education Connections (BATEC), Bunker Hill Community College, Roxbury Community College, Noonan Business Academy, and Madison Park Technical Vocational High School. The College Board’s Accuplacer™ test is used by all the Massachusetts Community Colleges, most of the state four-year colleges and some private four year colleges. The test is utilized to determine appropriate placement in courses that are consistent with student abilities and, to determine whether a student will need to complete developmental courses. The goal of utilizing the Accuplacer placement test and the A+Advancer Remediation software is to help students avoid taking required remedial coursework in college. |
