Welcome to the The Family Literacy Program at the Adult Learning Center! We’re committed to strengthening literacy and parenting skills of in families of children enrolled in Boston Public Schools.


The Family Literacy Program at the Adult Learning Center is a day-time program offering adult basic education, all levels of English for adult language learners, GED preparation, and computer literacy classes.  Our program is free and available to any parent of a child enrolled in Boston Public Schools.


Admission Requirements

Prospective students must come in for an information/registration session and a placement test to assess reading/writing and speaking/listening skills. Remember, there is no good or bad score. The test results are used to determine the best class for the student.


Please Note: The current wait time is usually six months.  It’s best to add your name to our wait list since we fill any open slots from the wait list.

Family Literacy Program

Helps parents and children learn together. A Parenting Skills Curriculum provides parents the opportunity to strengthen their parenting skills. Read more
