Substantially Separate Program Curriculum

Students with learning disabilities receiving instruction within a substantially separate classroom are required to meet the Boston Public Schools Curriculum Standards. These standards encourage students to become "independent thinkers." Modifications and accommodations will be provided in order to help students gain and apply the knowledge required for their grade level. Children are encouraged to work both independently and cooperatively.

Instruction in the core academic subjects is based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Students are exposed to a variety of learning materials. Grade level texts are used in conjunction with specially designed "direct instruction" resources. Direct instruction provides students the opportunity to reinforce the skills necessary to complete more challenging work as the year progresses. These resources were thoroughly researched, before they were implemented within the school.

A copy of the specific standards for your child’s grade can be found on the Boston Public School’s website. Information on the specific remedial programs used within the classroom can be obtained from the teacher.
