At our school, the School Site Council (SSC) is the group, which leads School Based Management making decisions around policies, programs, budget, and selection of new staff.

Voting members are 6 parent representatives, 5 staff members who are members of the Boston Teachers Union (BTU), and the principal. Parent representatives are elected in an open meeting by ballot.  The date for the election of parent leaders is Tuesday, September 20th from 5:30 to 7:00PM.  Each parent may vote for 6 representatives by secret ballot. Our goal is to have a group of strong leaders who represent the diversity of the Henderson community.

Meetings are open to all parents and staff members. Participants may voice opinions on any of the listed topics.  Consensus will be used for most decisions.  The first meeting date of the SSC will be held on Wednesday October 12 at 4PM.   After that the voting representatives will choose the dates for monthly meetings.

Parent representatives will choose 2 Co-chairs and BTU staff representatives will choose 1 co-chair.  The co-chairs will take turns setting the agenda and facilitating the meetings.  Agendas should be set a week before the meetings and distributed to staff and parents through the e-mail lists. Agendas should focus on topics that will benefit the school. There will not be any discussion criticizing individual students, family members, or staff.  A secretary selected by the group will take minutes.  After their approval at the following meeting, minutes will be kept on file in the main office.  Special events / programs recommended by the SSC will be posted in the monthly calendar and on the Henderson Inclusion web site.

All Henderson parents are automatically members of the School Parent Council.  For the past several years, parents have organized a variety of forums and workshops.  Last year the parent council was reactivated.  This year after the parent council and SSC elections, the parent council will meet on a regular basis.  For more information about the Henderson Inclusion School Parent Council and for an opportunity to select leaders, attend the first meeting on Tuesday September 20th at 5:30 PM.
